5 Steps to Installing a Bertha HV Accordion Shutter
Step 1:
We deliver each shutter in 4 individually labeled sections. Arrange the top, bottom, left stack and right stack as shown so that the component's back side is facing upward and the bottom (sill) is closest to the wall where the shutter will be installed.

Step 2:
Attach the four sections together by inserting two HV screws at each corner. You now have a "picture frame".

Step 3:
Stand the shutter up so that it is resting on the bottom sill. The left and right stack of blades should be fully open. This helps balance the shutters and keeps the top (currently unsupported) track from bending downward. The top track holds the entire weight of the shutter. The bottom track (sill) keeps the blades aligned with the wall, but does not support any of the shutter's weight.

Step 4:
Align the shutter to the corresponding opening. Our top and bottom tracks are delivered with pre-drilled holes based upon each window's requirements.
A) Start by selecting the outermost hole in top left (or right) corner. First drill a 3/16" hole then screw in a supplied 2-1/4" Maxiset Tapcon. This secures the first corner.
B) Move to the opposite top corner. Make sure that the top track is level and then drill the pilot hole in the outermost hole. Screw in another Maxiset Tapcon. The accordion shutter should now be able to support it's own weight.
C) Move to the center of the track and make sure that the track is level across its entire length. This may require that you push the track upward until everything is level. Once level, drill and insert another Maxiset Tapcon into one of the center holes. Again, check to make sure that the track is level then insert a Maxiset Tapcon into every remaining hole in the top track.

Step 5:
A) Once the top track is fully fastened, place a level on the side of the shutters and make sure that it is vertical. Holding the shutter in place, start by inserting a Maxiset Tapcon into one of the corner holes.
B) Move to the opposite side and insert another Maxiset Tapcon.
C) Close the shutters and lock in place.
D) Check that the blade clearance (distance from the bottom blade to the top of the track) is consistent across the entire bottom track. Hold the track in position and insert another Maxiset Tapcon into one of the bottom sill track. Once this the bottom track is set in place, continue filling each empty hole with a Maxiset Tapcon.
E) Caulking is optional. You can add a bead of color coordinated caulk along the vertical and top surfaces that come into contact with the wall. The top surface caulk will stop water from running down the wall and into your screw holes. The vertical side caulking does two things: 1) it will not allow wind and water to get behind the shutter from the side and 2) it will reduce the wind pressure on your window.
